The Sighs, “It’s Real”
It’s been 20 years since we last heard from Massachusetts rock band The Sighs-since the release of their last record, 1996’s “Different.” But after finding a box of early demos and analog tapes that were made at the band’s house studio back in the ’90s, the band found the inspiration to rework these songs and revisit the sounds that feel so revitalized now. With producer John DeNicola manning the boards at his studio in upstate New York, they approached the recording of these tracks with a newfound sense of creativity and freedom. The resulting sessions would form the basis of their forthcoming album, “Wait on Another Day,” due Sept. 8 via Omad Records.
On their latest single, “It’s Real,” the band roars through a power-pop environment where guitars lash out and melodies cut through the air in front of your face. Full of ecstatic hooks and driving rhythms, the track imagines what might happen if Big Star and The Replacements were ever to jam together in an enclosed space. There’s definitely a bit of nostalgia in their uproarious alt pop noise, but the band isn’t merely ceding to their desire to reclaim some past glories. The music is imbued with a fierce catchiness, giving the band a perfect foundation from which to refamiliarize people with their unique brand of primordial pop catharsis and revitalize a sound that hasn’t felt relevant in quite some time.

Fifth Harmony has recorded a new song that I'm a writer on called "Body Rock". Its on their album Reflection.
Hungry Eyes written by John DeNicola and Franke Previte is featured in the love scene of the movie Sausage Party. Sausage Party stars Seth Rogen, Kristen Wiig, Jonah Hill , Michael Cera and Bill Hader.
John has just completed production on Rust Dust “Diviners and Shivs” for Omad Records recorded live to tape in a barn. “Jason wanted to do this like a performance art piece, a live recording straight to two-track tape, and I thought my barn studio in upstate New York would be the perfect setting,” John says. “While Jason would be the only guitarist and singer, he saw the project as the work of a ‘band,’ with me and our engineer, Andris J. Balins, ‘playing’ the gear.”
The Sighs are back in the studio with John recording new material for their reunion record after 20 years. Entitled “Wait On Another Day”. The Sighs originally recorded their debut album for Charisma/Virgin in 1993. They had a hit record “Think About Soul” from album entitled “What Goes On”.
John is also producing NYC band Fovea’s debut EP entitled “Fear Of” and is in the studio with them now for the next 3 song EPfor release early 2017 which is ahead of their full Record scheduled to be released the summer of 2017.
A favorite project John produced was Arwen Lewis debut “Arwen” which consists of 12 Moby Grape songs. Arwen is the daughter of founding member of Moby Grape Peter Lewis. It was released in 2015.

Steve Holy who had last years long standing #1 hit “Good Morning Beautiful Day” has recorded the John DeNicola/Franke Previte penned song “You’re The Only One” which is in the Sylvester Stallon/Madelene Stowe movie entitled Avenging Angelo and coming out on the new CD on Curb Records.
And for all you baseball fans, Bernie Williams - the center-fielder for the NY Yankees - has recording one of John’s songs which he wrote with Patty Maloney entitled “The Way”. Bernie is a great guitarist and the album has other collaborators such as Reuben Blades and Bela Fleck. It is released on Verve Records.
John continues to produce and work with new undiscovered talent. He is currently working with and producing “Le Rug” having produced two cd’s with them. He’s hoping he has the same success as Maroon 5, an early discovery and production of John’s when they were called Kara’s Flowers.
Country star Jeannie Kendall of the Kendalls has recorded “Shouldn’t Still Shake Me”, a song John co-wrote with Nashville singer songwriter Shevy Smith. Look for Jeannie’s new record to come out on Rounder Records in a few months.
EMI Canada Recording artist Amanda Stott, is recording John’s song “Getting There” co-written with frequent collaborator Patty Maloney and Andrew Fromm whose credits include Mark Anthony and the Backstreet Boys. Amanda’s record will be released on Virgin Records in the US. Also recording this song is Japanese artist Miho Fukuhara for Sony Music Records. It was released in 2008.
Dirty Dancing, Havana Nights was released in the theaters and it featured the theme of “I’ve Had The Time of My life” 6 times during the movie. It was used as underscoring in various scenes. Hungry Eyes has reemerged in the form of a hit dance tune in the U.K. Eyeopener has scored a hit with a remake of the song and landed at #16 on the top 40 chart in England. Along with the song comes a quirky video involving two spritely fairies. Check it out at www.aatw.com
